Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 1991 Toyota Previa
Important Notice: The 1991 Toyota Previa uses a factory-installed keyless entry system that allows onboard programming. All remote transmitters must be present during the procedure, as only those activated during the session will be recognized afterward.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Collect all remote transmitters you wish to program. Each must be programmed during the same session.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine).
- Step 3: Locate the ECU (Engine Control Unit) and find the ECU PROGRAMMING button. The ECU is typically located under one of the front seats, in the trunk area, or beneath the driver’s side dashboard. You may need a pen or similar pointed object to press the small programming button.
- Step 4: Press and hold the ECU PROGRAMMING button for 3 seconds. The STATUS MONITOR LED will illuminate and stay on for approximately 5 seconds, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: While the STATUS MONITOR LED is illuminated (within 5 seconds), press and release either the top or bottom button on the remote you are programming. If using a four-button remote, press either the lock or unlock button—only those two are functional. The LED will turn off, the vehicle will chirp once, and the exterior lights will flash once, confirming successful programming.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition to the OFF position. Programming is now complete.
- Step 7: Test each remote to ensure it operates the vehicle as expected.
