Programming Guide for 1992 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1992 model supports onboard programming for remote keyless entry fobs. This process can be completed manually using the vehicle’s Data Link Connector (DLC). The procedure below applies only to programming remote fobs and does not include ignition key programming.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and make sure all doors are fully closed.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. This rectangular port contains several cavities or pin slots. The connector is not labeled, so pin positions must be counted based on the shape and layout.
- Step 3: Using a fused jumper wire, connect cavity G to cavity A on the DLC. When the connection is made, the vehicle should respond within two seconds by cycling the door locks (lock and unlock), indicating entry into programming mode.
- Step 4: On the first remote, press any button once. The vehicle’s locks will cycle again, confirming that the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 5: If you have a second remote to program, press any button on the second remote. The locks will again cycle to confirm successful programming.
- Step 6: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC.
- Step 7: Test all programmed remotes to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working correctly.
Additional Considerations:
Remote Limit: This system typically allows programming of up to two remotes.
Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a functioning battery before beginning the programming procedure.
Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not program ignition or transponder keys. Ignition key programming, if applicable, must be performed by a technician using specialized equipment.
Repeat if Necessary: If the locks do not respond at any step, restart the procedure from Step 1 and try again.
