Programming Guide for 1993 Mercury Cougar Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Importance of This Procedure: This procedure is designed for programming keyless entry remotes on 1993 Mercury Cougar models that are equipped with the factory keyless system. Not all vehicles came pre-wired for remote functionality, so it's important to confirm your vehicle has the correct programming connector before proceeding.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACC position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 2: Locate the programming connector in the left rear quarter panel area (trunk or behind trim panel). This connector has two terminals and is not connected to any wiring harness. Important: If you unplug something to access the connector, it's the wrong one.
- Step 3: Momentarily jump the two pins inside the programming connector using a small wire or paperclip. If done correctly, all doors will lock and then unlock, signaling that the vehicle is now in programming mode.
- Step 4: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote. The door locks should lock and unlock again, confirming successful programming of the remote.
- Step 5: To program a second remote, press any button on the second remote. The door locks should cycle once more to confirm the second remote is also programmed.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition to OFF to exit programming mode. The locks will cycle once more to indicate the procedure is complete.
