1993 Mercury Grand Marquis

Programming Guide for 1993 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for standard keyless entry remotes. A dedicated programming connector is required, located behind the glove compartment. All remotes must be programmed in a single session, as previously stored remotes will be erased if not included.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Ensure all doors are closed and all remotes you wish to program are available before starting the procedure.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Locate the programming connector behind the glove box. Use a small wire or jumper to momentarily bridge the terminals inside the connector.
  • Step 4: Observe the door locks. They will lock and then unlock automatically, confirming that the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first remote. The door locks will cycle again (lock and unlock) to confirm that the remote has been successfully recognized.
  • Step 6: If programming a second remote, press any button on it now. The door locks will once again cycle to confirm that this additional remote has been stored.
  • Step 7: When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 8: The door locks will perform one final lock/unlock cycle, confirming the vehicle has exited programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test all programmed remotes to ensure they operate the lock and unlock functions as expected.
  • Step 10: If any remote fails to function, repeat the process from Step 1, making sure to include all remotes in the session.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during the same session—any remote not included will no longer work afterward. Access to the programming connector is necessary; be prepared to remove or open the glove box for access. Proper contact with the programming terminals is essential for the system to respond—ensure a firm and brief connection when jumping the pins. Weak batteries in the remote can interfere with successful programming; replace them if necessary before starting.
