Programming Guide for 1993 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1993 Mercury Sable may be equipped with a factory keyless entry system that allows onboard remote programming. This process uses a dedicated two-pin programming connector located in the left rear quarter panel area.
Note: Not all vehicles were factory-equipped with remote keyless entry, so this connector may not be present.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and confirm that all doors are fully closed.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Locate the programming connector in the left rear quarter panel area—typically accessed by removing or loosening interior trim in the cargo or trunk area. The correct connector will not be plugged into anything and will have two terminals inside. If the connector is currently plugged in, it is not the correct one for remote programming.
- Step 4: Using a small jumper wire or paperclip, momentarily connect the two terminals inside the programming connector. When done correctly, all the doors will lock and then unlock, confirming the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
- Step 6: If you are programming a second remote, press any button on that remote within a few seconds of the first. The door locks will cycle again to indicate that the second remote has been accepted.
- Step 7: When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 8: The door locks will cycle one final time, signaling the end of the programming session.
- Step 9: Disconnect the jumper wire from the programming connector and restore the trim panel if it was removed.
- Step 10: Test all remotes to ensure full functionality of the lock and unlock features.
Additional Considerations: Not all 1993 Sable models came with keyless entry. If the connector is missing or plugged into a control module, the system may not be equipped to support remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed together. Any remote not programmed during this session will be erased from memory. Timing is important. Be sure to press each remote button shortly after entering programming mode to avoid time-out. Ensure each remote has a functioning battery before beginning the process to prevent programming failures.
