Programming Guide for 1994 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1994 model supports onboard programming for remote keyless entry fobs. The steps below allow you to program compatible remotes manually using the Data Link Connector (DLC). This procedure does not apply to ignition or transponder key programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. The connector is shaped like a rectangle and is wider at the top. This orientation will help you identify the correct terminal positions.
  • Step 4: Identify terminals 8 and 4 on the connector. The port may not be labeled, so refer to its shape to locate the correct pins. Ensure that both terminals have visible metal contact pins.
  • Step 5: Use a jumper wire to connect terminal 8 to terminal 4. Leave the wire connected throughout the entire programming process. Once connected, the system will enter programming mode.
  • Step 6: Turn the ignition key to the ON position (without starting the engine). Within a few seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock and unlock), indicating that the vehicle is ready to program remotes.
  • Step 7: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. Hold both buttons for approximately 15 seconds until the door locks cycle again. Release the buttons once this occurs—this confirms successful programming.
  • Step 8: If you have a second remote, repeat Step 7 within one minute of programming the first one.
  • Step 9: After all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the jumper wire from the DLC.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to confirm that the lock and unlock functions work correctly.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Remote Limit: A total of two remotes can be programmed to this system.

Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a fully charged battery before beginning.

Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not program ignition keys. A technician with specialized tools is required to perform ignition key programming.

If Programming Fails: If the locks do not respond or the remote fails to function, restart the process from Step 1.
