Programming Guide for 1994 Mercury Cougar Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Importance of This Procedure: This guide provides step-by-step instructions to program keyless entry remotes on 1994 Mercury Cougar models equipped with the factory-installed keyless system. Please verify your vehicle has the required programming connector before beginning, as not all vehicles were pre-wired for remote entry from the factory.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACC position. Do not start the vehicle.
  • Step 2: Locate the programming connector in the left rear quarter panel area (typically in the trunk). This connector is not connected to any wiring harness and contains two pins. Important: If you unplug a connector to access it, you have the wrong one.
  • Step 3: Briefly jump the two terminals inside the programming connector using a metal paperclip or jumper wire. All doors will lock and unlock, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 4: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first remote you wish to program. The door locks will lock and unlock, confirming successful programming.
  • Step 5: If you have a second remote, press any button on it as well. The locks will cycle again to confirm programming.
  • Step 6: Turn the ignition to the OFF position. The door locks will cycle one final time to indicate the vehicle has exited programming mode.
