1994 Mercury Grand Marquis

Programming Guide for 1994 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This model includes onboard programming capability using a dedicated connector located behind the glove compartment. No special tools are required, but all remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included will be erased from the system memory.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat with all remote fobs you intend to program. Ensure all doors are closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Open the glove compartment and locate the programming connector positioned behind it. You may need to lower or remove the glove box for easier access.
  • Step 4: Use a jumper wire or paperclip to briefly connect the two terminals inside the programming connector.
  • Step 5: Watch and listen for the door locks to automatically lock and then unlock. This confirms that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first remote. The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 7: If you have a second remote, press any button on it now. The locks will cycle again to confirm that it has been accepted.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes, ensuring each is programmed within a few seconds of the previous one.
  • Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 10: The door locks will cycle one final time (lock then unlock), indicating that the programming mode has ended.
  • Step 11: Remove the jumper from the connector and return the glove compartment to its original position.
  • Step 12: Test all programmed remotes to verify that lock and unlock functions are working as expected.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in the same session; otherwise, unprogrammed remotes will no longer operate the system. Timing is essential—if too much time passes between steps, the vehicle may exit programming mode automatically. Weak or dead batteries in the remote may cause programming to fail. Replace batteries before beginning if needed. Proper connection with the programming terminals is required to activate the system—ensure a clean and brief contact.
