1994 Mercury Sable

Programming Guide for 1994 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1994 Mercury Sable may include a factory-installed keyless entry system that allows for onboard programming using a connector located in the left rear quarter panel area. Note: Not all models were equipped with this feature from the factory. If the connector is not present, the vehicle may not support remote fob programming.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and make sure all vehicle doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Locate the two-pin programming connector in the left rear quarter panel area, typically behind the trim in the trunk or cargo area. The correct connector will not be plugged into anything and will have two open terminals inside. If you locate a connector that is already plugged in, do not use it—it is not the correct one for this procedure.
  • Step 4: Using a small jumper wire or paperclip, briefly connect the two terminals inside the programming connector. If successful, all door locks will lock and then unlock, signaling that the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle once more to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: If programming a second remote, press any button on it within a few seconds of the first. The locks will cycle again, confirming successful programming of the second remote.
  • Step 7: Once all desired remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 8: The door locks will cycle one final time, indicating that the programming mode has ended.
  • Step 9: Remove the jumper wire from the programming connector and reassemble any interior trim panels if they were removed.
  • Step 10: Test all programmed remotes to ensure that the lock and unlock buttons function correctly.

Additional Considerations: Only vehicles factory-equipped with keyless entry support this procedure. If no loose two-pin connector is found, the vehicle may not support remote programming. All remotes must be programmed in one session. Any that are not included will be erased from the system. Avoid delays between steps. If too much time passes, the system may exit programming mode automatically. Check remote batteries in advance to ensure each remote communicates correctly during the session.
