1994 Volkswagen Golf – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: This programming procedure is valid only for 1994 Volkswagen Golf models equipped with the original factory-installed keyless entry system. It will not work with Hella-branded systems or most aftermarket alarm installations. If your vehicle did not come with remote keyless entry from the factory, this process will only work if a Volkswagen factory alarm module is installed. Factory systems typically include a white control unit located behind the headlight switch. Before you begin, ensure that the FCC ID on your remote fob matches the system installed in your vehicle. Known compatible FCC IDs include NBG730956 and M36HU01WT. Remotes with other FCC IDs will not function. If you're unsure about compatibility, consult a dealer before attempting programming.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Ensure that each remote fob you plan to program has a fully charged and functional battery.
- Step 2: Insert the first key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Insert a second key into the driver’s side door lock. Turn the key to the unlock position (counterclockwise) and hold it in that position until the horn beeps three times. This usually takes approximately 10 to 15 seconds.
- Step 4: Once the three beeps are heard, return the door key to the center (neutral) position, but leave it in the door lock. Step 5: Press any button on the first remote fob. The horn will beep once, indicating that the remote has been successfully registered.
- Step 6: If programming multiple remotes, press a button on each additional fob within a few seconds. The horn will beep twice for the second fob, three times for the third, and so on. Note: All remote fobs must be programmed in the same session. Any fob not included during the session will be erased from memory and will no longer function.
- Step 7: When all remotes are programmed, turn the door key again to the unlock position (left) and hold it until the horn beeps three times again. This signals that the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 8: Turn off the ignition and remove both the ignition key and the door key.
- Step 9: Test each remote fob to confirm that all functions—such as locking and unlocking the doors—are working correctly.
