1994 Volkswagen Jetta – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide

Important Notice: This programming procedure is specifically for the 1994 Volkswagen Jetta equipped with the factory-installed keyless entry system. It will not work with aftermarket systems or if the FCC IDs do not match. Known compatible FCC IDs for this model include NBG730956 and M36HU01WT. This method is not compatible with the Hella system.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Verify the FCC ID on each remote fob to ensure compatibility. If uncertain of the FCC ID, consult with a Volkswagen dealer to ascertain the correct remote for your Jetta.
  • Step 2: Ensure all remote fobs you wish to program are present, as all remotes need to be programmed simultaneously to prevent any from becoming inactive.
  • Step 3: Insert a key into the ignition and turn it to the 'ON' position (do not start the engine).
  • Step 4: Insert a second key into the driver’s door lock. Turn this key to the unlock position (counterclockwise) and hold until the vehicle’s horn beeps three times, signaling readiness for programming. This typically takes about 10-15 seconds.
  • Step 5: After the three beeps, maintain the key in the unlock position, but return it to the center position, leaving it in the door.
  • Step 6: Press any button on the first remote fob. The horn will beep once to indicate successful programming of that fob.
  • Step 7: Quickly press a button on each additional fob. The horn will beep to correspond with the number of the fob being programmed (e.g., two beeps for the second fob).
  • Step 8: Once all fobs are programmed, turn the door key counterclockwise again until the horn beeps three times, indicating the end of the programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the keys from the ignition and the door lock.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to ensure it properly locks and unlocks the doors and performs any other programmed functions.
