1995 Volkswagen Cabrio – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide

Important Notice: This procedure only works with vehicles equipped with the factory-installed keyless entry system. Aftermarket systems are not compatible. Before proceeding, ensure the FCC ID on your remote fob matches the system already installed in your vehicle. Known compatible FCC IDs include NBG730956 and M36HU01WT. This process does not apply to Hella-branded systems.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Verify that the remote fob you intend to program matches the FCC ID of the original fob used with the vehicle. If you are unsure of the correct FCC ID, you may need to consult a dealer before proceeding.
  • Step 2: Ensure the remote fob(s) have fresh batteries installed to avoid communication issues during programming.
  • Step 3: Insert the first key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 4: Insert the second key into the driver’s door lock. Turn the key to the unlock position (counterclockwise) and hold it in that position until you hear three confirmation beeps. This usually takes between 10 to 15 seconds.
  • Step 5: Once the beeping is heard, return the door key to the neutral (center) position, but leave the key in the door lock.
  • Step 6: Press a button on the first remote fob. The vehicle horn will beep once to confirm that the fob has been recognized and programmed.
  • Step 7: If you have additional remote fobs to program, press a button on the next fob within a few seconds. The horn will beep twice for the second fob, three times for the third, and so on.
  • Step 8: After programming all remotes, turn the key in the door lock back to the unlock position (left) and hold until the horn beeps three times again. This indicates that the system has exited programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the ignition key and the door key.
  • Step 10: Test each remote fob to ensure that locking and unlocking functions operate correctly.
