1995 Volkswagen Golf – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: This programming procedure is designed for 1995 Volkswagen Golf models equipped with the factory-installed keyless entry system. It will not work with Hella-branded systems or aftermarket alarm kits. If your vehicle was not originally equipped with a factory remote system, this method will only work if a Volkswagen factory alarm module is present. A white control box located behind the headlight switch is a typical sign of a factory-installed system. Before beginning, confirm that the FCC ID printed on the back of your remote fob matches the one required for your vehicle. Known compatible FCC IDs include NBG730956 and M36HU01WT. If the FCC ID does not match, programming will not be successful. When in doubt, contact a dealer to verify compatibility.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Make sure all remote fobs have fresh, fully charged batteries to ensure reliable communication.
- Step 2: Insert the first key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine).
- Step 3: Insert a second key into the driver’s side door lock. Turn the key to the unlock position (counterclockwise) and hold it in that position. Continue holding until the horn sounds three times, which typically takes 10 to 15 seconds.
- Step 4: After the horn beeps three times, return the key in the door lock to the center (neutral) position, but leave it in the door.
- Step 5: Press a button on the first remote fob. The horn will beep once, confirming successful programming of that fob.
- Step 6: If you have additional fobs, press a button on each one within a few seconds of the previous. The horn will beep twice for the second fob, three times for the third, and so on. Note: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote fob not programmed at this time will be erased and no longer function.
- Step 7: After all remotes are programmed, turn the key in the door back to the unlock position (left) and hold it until the horn beeps three times again. This indicates that the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 8: Turn off the ignition and remove both keys.
- Step 9: Test each remote fob to verify that the locking and unlocking functions work correctly.
