Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide – 1995 Volkswagen Jetta

Important Notice: This programming procedure applies only to vehicles equipped with a factory-installed alarm system—not the Hella system. The remote fob's FCC ID must match the vehicle's system. Common FCC IDs for compatible remotes include NBG730956 and M36HU01WT. If you are unsure about the correct FCC ID, consult a dealer for assistance before proceeding. Programming Requirements: A minimum of two keys is required—one for the ignition and one for the driver’s door. All remote fobs must be programmed during the same session, or previously working fobs may be erased. A white control module should be present behind the headlight switch (verifies factory alarm system is installed).

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Insert one key into the ignition and turn it to the ""ON"" position (do not start the engine).
  • Step 2: Insert the second key into the driver’s door lock. Turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position and hold it there for approximately 10–15 seconds, until you hear three horn beeps. This signals that the vehicle has entered programming mode. Return the door key to the center (neutral) position, but do not remove it.
  • Step 3: Press any button on the remote fob you wish to program. The horn will beep once to indicate the first fob is accepted. For each additional fob, press a button, and the horn will beep twice, three times, etc., depending on the fob's sequence.
  • Step 4: Once all fobs are programmed, turn the door key again to the unlock position (counterclockwise) until the horn beeps three times, signaling exit from programming mode.
  • Step 5: Remove the key from the ignition. All remotes are now programmed.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If no beep is heard when pressing a fob button, check the fob battery and ensure the FCC ID is compatible. This procedure will not work with aftermarket alarm systems. Only vehicles with a factory-installed keyless entry module (white box behind the headlight switch) can use this method.
