1996 Buick LeSabre Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This model supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs using the Data Link Connector (DLC) under the dashboard. You may program up to two remotes. Please follow each step carefully to ensure success.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Insert the ignition key into the ignition cylinder, but do not turn it—leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the driver’s side of the dashboard. The DLC is a 16-pin connector, wider at the top, and shaped like a trapezoid. The pins are not labeled, so use a diagram or reference image to identify pins 4 and 8.
  • Step 3: Confirm that there are metal terminals in pins 4 and 8. Connect these two terminals using a fused jumper wire. Keep the jumper wire connected during the entire procedure.
  • Step 4: Close all doors to ensure the vehicle enters programming mode.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting the engine). The door locks will automatically lock and unlock, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. After approximately 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle again, confirming that the remote has been successfully programmed. Release the buttons.
  • Step 7: If programming a second remote, repeat Step 6 within one minute to add the additional transmitter.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire from the DLC.

Additional Information: A maximum of two remotes can be programmed for this vehicle. Ensure remote batteries are fresh before attempting programming. This guide only applies to remote fob programming. Ignition key programming is not included in this procedure.
