1996 Honda Odyssey – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
For EX Model with Factory-Installed Keyless Entry System
Important Notes: This procedure must be completed quickly and precisely. The system will exit programming mode if steps are not completed in time. A maximum of two remotes can be programmed to the system.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the process.
- Step 2: Press and hold the driver’s power door lock switch in the unlock position. Keep it held for the entire procedure.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition and remove it. Repeat this action four more times (for a total of five times) within 10 seconds. Note: Steps 3 and 4 must be completed within 10 seconds to avoid exiting programming mode.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition again and leave it in the ignition. At this point, all power door locks should cycle, confirming entry into programming mode.
- Step 5: On the first remote, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. All power door locks (except the driver’s door) should cycle again to confirm the remote has been accepted.
- Step 6: To add a second remote, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the second remote within 10 seconds of programming the first one. The locks should cycle again to confirm.
- Step 7: Release the power door lock switch to exit programming mode.
- Step 8: Test each remote to ensure proper operation.
For EX and LX Models with Dealer-Installed Keyless Entry System
Important Notes: Entering programming mode will erase all previously stored remotes. You must reprogram all remotes during the same session. Each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous step to remain in programming mode.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
- Step 2: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on one of the remotes. (It’s acceptable to use a new, unprogrammed remote for this step.)
- Step 3: Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position.
- Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times (three cycles total), always using the same remote.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position again.
- Step 6: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote. If the power door locks cycle, the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 7: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each remote you wish to program. The locks should cycle after each remote is accepted.
- Step 8: Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Test all remotes to ensure they function correctly.
