Programming Guide for 1996 Mazda 626 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1996 Mazda 626 features an on-board programming procedure for remote key fobs. All remotes—including any previously programmed—must be programmed during the same session.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 2: Make sure all doors are completely closed.
- Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the ON position (without starting the engine), then turn it OFF and remove the key.
- Step 5: Repeat Step 4 two more times, for a total of three ON/OFF cycles, making sure to remove the key each time.
- Step 6: Close the driver’s door, then open it again. Repeat this motion three times.
- Step 7: Listen for a chime or buzzing sound. This indicates the vehicle has entered programming mode. If no sound is heard, wait 40 seconds, then restart the procedure from Step 1.
- Step 8: Program each remote by pressing any button twice on the remote you wish to register. After each remote is accepted, a chime or buzzer will sound to confirm programming. Program up to three remotes total, including any existing ones.
- Step 9: After programming all remotes, wait 15 seconds or listen for four consecutive chimes, indicating that programming is complete.
