Programming Guide for 1996 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle uses the exterior keypad system to access programming mode for keyless entry remotes. All remotes, including those previously programmed, must be synced during the same session. If the keypad times out before programming is complete, the entire process must be restarted.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Ensure all vehicle doors are closed and all remote fobs to be programmed are available.
- Step 2: On the driver’s side keypad, enter the vehicle’s 5-digit permanent factory entry code.
- Step 3: Within 5 seconds of pressing the final digit, press the 1/2 button on the keypad.
- Step 4: Watch for confirmation—all doors will lock and then unlock automatically, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Within 5 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 6: If programming a second remote, press any button on it within 5 seconds of programming the first. The locks will cycle again, confirming successful registration.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes, making sure to press a button on each one within 5 seconds of the last.
- Step 8: If the keypad backlight turns off before all remotes are programmed, the vehicle will exit programming mode and no remotes will be stored. You must begin again from Step 1.
- Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, simultaneously press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons on the keypad. The door locks will cycle one final time, confirming that programming mode has ended.
- Step 10: Test each remote to verify that lock and unlock functions operate correctly.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be included during the same programming session—any remote omitted will no longer function. Observe the timing closely—each step must be completed quickly to prevent the system from exiting programming mode. Keypad lighting indicates active mode—once the light goes out, programming is canceled. Check remote batteries before beginning, as low power can interfere with successful programming.
