1996 Mercury Villager

Programming Guide for 1996 Mercury Villager Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1996 Mercury Villager supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs using the vehicle’s ignition and power lock system. All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote not programmed will need to be reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Enter the vehicle and close and lock all doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door.
  • Step 2: Insert and remove the key (without turning it) from the ignition at least 6 times within 10 seconds. The tail lamps will flash to indicate that the original code has been erased.
  • Step 3: Insert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the ACC (accessory) position.
  • Step 4: Press the LOCK button on the first keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 5: To add additional remotes, unlock and then lock the doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the second keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash to confirm that the second remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: Open the driver’s door and turn the ignition to OFF to exit programming mode.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed together. Any remote that is not included will be erased from the system and must be reprogrammed. Ensure the timing is followed precisely. If there is a delay between steps, the vehicle will exit programming mode and you will need to start over. Check the battery in the remote before starting to ensure it is functioning properly.
