Programming Guide for 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs via the data port. Ensure you have the correct jumper wire and know the positions of the terminals in the data port.
Expanded Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Locate the Data Port under the dashboard. Ensure you have access to the data port, which is often located near the driver’s side under the dashboard.
- Step 2: Insert the keys into the ignition and leave them in the OFF position. Do not turn the key to the ACC or RUN positions yet.
- Step 3: Verify that there are metal contact pins in terminals 1 and 4 of the data port. Use a suitable jumper wire to connect terminals 1 and 4 in the data port. Keep the jumper wire connected throughout the programming procedure. Important: Make sure you correctly identify terminals 1 and 4 before proceeding.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds after connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to the ACC (accessory) position, and then back to the OFF position. Note: The doors will automatically lock and unlock once to indicate that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Press the LOCK button on the first remote transmitter to be programmed. Press it three times within 10 seconds. Upon successful programming, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) once to confirm the remote has been registered.
- Step 6: If you are programming two remotes, first program the first remote as described in Step 5, then proceed to program the second remote. To program the second remote, repeat Step 5 within one minute of programming the first remote. After the second remote has been programmed successfully, the door locks will cycle again to confirm both remotes are programmed.
- Step 7: After completing the programming, disconnect the jumper wire and remove the keys from the ignition to exit programming mode.
- Step 8: Test each remote by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons to confirm that the remotes are functioning properly.
Additional Considerations: Ensure proper timing for each step. If too much time passes between actions, the system may exit programming mode and the process will need to be repeated. Check the battery in the remote before starting the procedure to ensure it is working properly. Be cautious when connecting the jumper wire to avoid damaging the data port terminals.
