Programming Guide for 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse uses the data port for programming keyless entry remote fobs. Ensure you properly identify terminals 1 and 4 and follow the steps precisely to complete the programming successfully.
Expanded Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Locate the Data Port under the dashboard, typically near the driver's side. Ensure you have clear access to this port, as you will need to connect the jumper wire to initiate the programming process.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position. Do not turn the ignition key to ACC or ON yet.
- Step 3: Verify the metal contact pins in terminals 1 and 4 of the data port. Connect a suitable jumper wire between terminals 1 and 4. This jumper wire must remain connected throughout the entire programming process. Important: Double-check the terminal numbers to ensure proper connection.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds after connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to the ACC (accessory) position, then back to OFF. Note: The doors will automatically lock and unlock once, confirming that the system is now in programming mode.
- Step 5: Press the LOCK button on the first keyless remote transmitter you wish to program. Press the button three times within 10 seconds. Once the remote is successfully programmed, the doors will lock and unlock once to confirm that the first remote has been successfully registered.
- Step 6: If you are programming two remotes, begin by programming the first remote as outlined in Step 5, then proceed to program the second remote. To program the second remote, repeat Step 5 within one minute after programming the first remote. Once the second remote is successfully registered, the doors will lock and unlock once again to confirm that both remotes have been programmed.
- Step 7: After programming all remotes, disconnect the jumper wire from the data port. Remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
- Step 8: Test each remote by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. Verify that each remote functions properly, ensuring the doors lock and unlock as expected.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote that is missed will need to be reprogrammed in a separate session. Be mindful of timing. If too much time passes between the steps, the system may exit programming mode, requiring you to start over. Check the batteries in each remote before starting the process to ensure they are functioning properly.
