Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1996 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming through the diagnostic port. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remotes not included will be erased from memory.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Insert the ignition key and leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the driver’s side dashboard. The connector is trapezoidal in shape. Although the pins are not labeled, use a standard OBD-style layout to identify the correct terminals: Terminal 8: Top row, far right Terminal 4: Bottom row, second from the left
  • Step 3: Ensure that terminals 8 and 4 have metal contacts. Connect terminal 8 to terminal 4 using a jumper wire, and leave it connected throughout the procedure. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors to confirm entry into programming mode.
  • Step 4: Make sure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). The doors will lock again to confirm readiness.
  • Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. After about 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming. Release the buttons.
  • Step 7: Within one minute, repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes you wish to program.
  • Step 8: When all remotes are programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test each remote to ensure all keyless entry functions are working properly.
