Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1996 Oldsmobile LSS
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming using the diagnostic port. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remotes not included will be erased from memory.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Insert the ignition key and leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) underneath the driver’s side dashboard. This trapezoidal connector follows the standard OBDII layout. Though the pins are not labeled, refer to the following positions: Terminal 8: Top row, far right Terminal 4: Bottom row, second from the left
- Step 3: Verify that both terminals 8 and 4 have metal contacts. Use a jumper wire to connect them. Leave the jumper in place throughout the procedure. The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to indicate the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 4: Ensure all doors are completely closed.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting the engine). The doors will lock again, confirming the vehicle is ready to program remotes.
- Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. After approximately 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle once more to confirm successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 7: Within one minute, repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to program.
- Step 8: When all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC to exit programming mode.
- Step 9 (Optional): Test each remote to ensure proper functionality.
