Programming Guide for 1996 Oldsmobile Regency Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1996 Oldsmobile Regency supports on-board programming of keyless entry remotes using the vehicle’s Data Link Connector (DLC). No specialized equipment is required, but correct identification of connector terminals is necessary.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. This trapezoidal connector is wider at the top. Although terminal numbers are not labeled, use a reference diagram to identify terminal 8 and terminal 4 accurately.
- Step 3: Make sure that metal contact pins are present in both terminals 8 and 4. Use a suitable jumper wire to connect the two terminals. Leave the jumper wire connected for the duration of the programming process.
- Step 4: When the connection is made, the vehicle will automatically lock and unlock the doors, indicating that it has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Confirm that all doors are securely closed before continuing.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition to the ON position (one step before starting the engine). The door locks will cycle again, signaling readiness to accept remote programming.
- Step 7: On the first remote to be programmed, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. After approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock again to confirm successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 8: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 7 for each additional remote you wish to program.
- Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the Data Link Connector.
- Step 10: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
- Step 11: Test all remotes to ensure proper functionality.
