1996 Toyota Avalon Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: This vehicle can store a maximum of two remotes. Programming a new remote will erase all previously programmed remotes. If using two remotes, both must be programmed during the same session.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Remove the Key from the Ignition Ensure the ignition key is completely removed before beginning the procedure.
- Step 2: Locate and Disconnect the Bulb Failure Warning Module Open the trunk and locate the bulb failure warning module near the left-hand hinge. Disconnect the multi-pin plug from the module.
- Step 3: Enter Programming Mode Insert a jumper wire between terminals 2 and 10 on the disconnected harness connector. The system should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once and activating the trunk release—this confirms entry into programming mode.
- Step 4: Program the First Remote Press any button on the first keyless remote. The system should again lock and unlock the doors and activate the trunk release to confirm successful programming.
- Step 5: Program the Second Remote (If Applicable) Press any button on the second remote within a few seconds. The system should lock and unlock the doors and activate the trunk release again, confirming the second remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 6: Exit Programming Mode Remove the jumper wire from the connector and reconnect the multi-plug to the bulb failure warning module.
- Step 7: Test All Remotes Verify that each remote operates correctly by testing the lock, unlock, and trunk release functions.
Additional Notes:
- Maximum of two remotes can be programmed to the vehicle. All remotes must be programmed at the same time, as programming one will clear any previously stored remotes.
