Programming Guide for 1997 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: When programming remotes for this model, all remotes must be present during the programming session. Any remotes not included during the procedure will no longer function once the process is complete, as the system erases all previously stored codes during reprogramming. This guide applies only to remote fobs and does not include ignition key programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Make sure all vehicle doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (as far as it will go without starting the engine).
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key from the ignition cylinder.
  • Step 4: On the driver’s side door, press and hold the UNLOCK position on the power door lock switch.
  • Step 5: While holding the UNLOCK switch, insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and immediately remove it. Do not turn the key.
  • Step 6: Repeat the previous step: insert the key into the ignition and remove it again without turning it.
  • Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition a third time and leave it in place (do not turn).
  • Step 8: Release the UNLOCK switch on the driver’s door. The vehicle should emit three audible beeps, confirming that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 9: On the first remote fob, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Continue holding for approximately 15 seconds until the vehicle beeps twice, indicating successful programming.
  • Step 10: Repeat Step 9 for each additional remote you wish to program (up to four total). All remotes must be programmed during the same session.
  • Step 11: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Test each remote to confirm proper functionality.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Remote Capacity: Up to four remotes can be programmed to this system.

Battery Health: Ensure all remotes have working batteries before starting.

Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not program ignition or transponder keys. Specialized tools and a qualified technician are required for ignition key programming.

Restart If Needed: If the vehicle does not respond as described, restart the process from Step 1.
