1997 Honda Odyssey – Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions

For EX Model with Factory-Installed Keyless Entry System

Important Notes: This system supports a maximum of two remotes. The programming sequence must be completed within 10 seconds or the system will exit programming mode. The driver’s door must remain open during the entire procedure.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the duration of the procedure.
  • Step 2: Press and hold the driver’s power door lock switch in the unlock position. Keep holding this switch throughout the entire programming process.
  • Step 3: Insert the ignition key and remove it. Repeat this four more times (five total insertions) within 10 seconds.
  • Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition again. If done correctly, the power door locks will cycle, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: On the first remote, press both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. The power door locks (except the driver’s door) should cycle again, confirming the remote has been successfully registered.
  • Step 6: To program a second remote, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the second remote within 10 seconds of completing step 5. The locks should cycle again to confirm acceptance.
  • Step 7: Release the power door lock switch to exit programming mode.
  • Step 8: Test each remote to ensure full functionality of lock, unlock, and any additional features.

For EX and LX Models with Dealer-Installed Keyless Entry System

Important Notes: Entering programming mode will erase all previously stored remotes. All remotes must be reprogrammed during the same session. You must complete each step within 5 seconds of the previous step to stay in programming mode.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
  • Step 2: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on one of the remotes. (An unprogrammed remote may be used.)

  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1–3 two more times using the same remote (three total cycles).
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) again.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote. The power door locks should cycle, confirming entry into programming mode.
