Programming Guide for 1997 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs using a timed ignition cycle method. To ensure successful programming, all remote fobs must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included in the session will be removed from the vehicle’s memory.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and make sure all doors are fully closed to prevent interruptions during programming.
- Step 2: Have all remote fobs you intend to program within reach before beginning.
- Step 3: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position five times, ending with the key in the RUN position on the fifth cycle. This action must be performed quickly and without pausing.
- Step 5: After the fifth turn, the door locks will lock and unlock automatically, indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 6: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 7: If you have a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of programming the first. The locks will cycle again to confirm it has also been accepted.
- Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for each additional remote, ensuring each is programmed within 20 seconds of the last.
- Step 9: When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 10: The door locks will cycle one final time, signaling that programming mode has ended.
- Step 11: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure that the lock and unlock functions operate properly.
- Step 12: If a remote fails to work, repeat the process from Step 1, carefully following the timing guidelines.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Remotes not included will be erased from memory. Precise timing is essential. Delays during ignition cycling or remote input may cause the vehicle to exit programming mode prematurely. Ensure each remote’s battery is functional before starting the process.
