Programming Guide for 1997 Mercury Villager Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1997 Mercury Villager supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not programmed will be erased from the system and must be reprogrammed.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Enter the vehicle and close and lock all doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door.
- Step 2: Insert and remove the key (do not turn it) from the ignition at least 6 times within 10 seconds. The tail lamps will flash to indicate that the original code has been erased.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ACC (accessory) position.
- Step 4: Press the LOCK button on the first keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 5: To add additional remotes, unlock and then lock the doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the second keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash again to confirm that the second remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 7: Open the driver’s door and turn the ignition to OFF to exit programming mode.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in the same session. If any remote is missed, it will need to be reprogrammed. Timing is important; delays between steps can cause the vehicle to exit programming mode, requiring a restart of the process. Check the batteries in the remotes before starting the programming process to ensure they are functioning properly.
