Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora
Important Note: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remotes not programmed at that time will no longer function.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition, but leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the driver’s side dashboard. It is a trapezoid-shaped port. While the terminals are not labeled, terminal 4 is the bottom left, and terminal 8 is the top right (refer to a pinout diagram if needed).
- Step 3: Ensure terminals 4 and 8 have metal contacts. Use a jumper wire to connect these two terminals. Leave the wire in place for the duration of the programming process. When the connection is made, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 4: Make sure all doors are closed before continuing.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). The door locks will lock, signaling that the system is ready for remote programming.
- Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. After about 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle again to indicate successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 7: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes. Each remote must be programmed individually during this session.
- Step 8: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the Data Link Connector.
- Step 9: Test each remote to ensure all functions (lock, unlock, trunk, panic) are working properly.
