Programming Guide for 1997 Oldsmobile Regency Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1997 Oldsmobile Regency supports on-board programming of keyless entry remote fobs using the vehicle’s Data Link Connector (DLC). This procedure does not require specialized tools but does require attention to terminal identification.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. This trapezoidal port is wider at the top. While terminals are not labeled, refer to a diagram to correctly identify terminal 8 and terminal 4.
  • Step 3: Confirm that metal contact pins are present in both terminal 8 and terminal 4. Use a suitable jumper wire to connect the two terminals. Leave the jumper wire in place throughout the programming process.
  • Step 4: The vehicle will automatically lock and unlock the doors, indicating that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Ensure that all doors are securely closed before proceeding.
  • Step 6: Turn the ignition to the ON position (one step before starting the engine). The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the system is ready to receive remote programming.
  • Step 7: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. After about 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock again, signaling successful programming. Release the buttons.
  • Step 8: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 7 for each additional remote you want to program (up to the system’s supported limit).
  • Step 9: After programming all remotes, remove the jumper wire from the DLC to exit programming mode.
  • Step 10: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 11: Test all remotes to ensure they function correctly.
