Programming Guide for 1998 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: Before beginning the programming process, ensure you have all remotes you intend to use with the vehicle. During programming, all previously stored codes will be erased. Any remotes not included in this session will no longer function until reprogrammed. This procedure applies only to remote fobs and does not include ignition key programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Make sure all vehicle doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position (as far as it goes without starting the engine).
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 4: Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the driver’s side power door lock switch.
  • Step 5: While holding the UNLOCK switch, insert the key into the ignition and immediately remove it. Do not turn the key.
  • Step 6: Repeat the previous step: insert the key again and remove it without turning.
  • Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition a third time and leave it in place. Do not turn the key.
  • Step 8: Release the UNLOCK button. The vehicle should emit three chimes, confirming that programming mode has been activated.
  • Step 9: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. Hold the buttons for about 15 seconds until the vehicle chimes twice, indicating successful programming.
  • Step 10: Repeat Step 9 for each additional remote. Up to four remotes can be programmed during this session.
  • Step 11: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Test all remotes to confirm that lock, unlock, and other functions operate correctly.

Additional Considerations:

Remote Limit: The system supports programming of up to four remotes.

Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a working battery prior to programming.

Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not support ignition key programming. A technician with the appropriate equipment is required for that process.

If Programming Fails: If the vehicle does not enter programming mode or fails to respond, restart the process from Step 1.
