1998 Honda Odyssey – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

For EX Model with Factory-Installed Keyless Entry System

Important Notes: The programming process allows for a maximum of two remotes. Steps must be completed quickly—within 10 seconds—or the system will exit programming mode. The driver’s door must remain open during the entire process.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the procedure.
  • Step 2: Press and hold the driver’s power door lock switch in the unlock position. Do not release this switch until the final step.
  • Step 3: Insert the ignition key into the ignition and immediately remove it. Repeat this action four more times, for a total of five insertions and removals, all within 10 seconds.
  • Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition once more. If completed correctly, the power door locks will cycle, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: On the first remote, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. The power door locks (except the driver’s door) should cycle again, confirming the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: To add a second remote, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the second remote within 10 seconds of programming the first. The locks should cycle again to confirm acceptance.
  • Step 7: Release the power door lock switch to exit programming mode.
  • Step 8: Test both remotes to ensure all functions (lock, unlock) work correctly.

For EX and LX Models with Dealer-Installed Keyless Entry System

Important Notes: Entering programming mode will erase all previously stored remotes. All remotes must be reprogrammed in the same session. Each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous step to avoid exiting the mode.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
  • Step 2: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on one of the remotes. (You may use a new or unprogrammed remote for this step.)
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position.
  • Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 two more times using the same remote.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) again.
  • Step 6: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote. The power door locks should cycle, indicating that programming mode has been activated.
  • Step 7: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each additional remote you wish to program. The locks will cycle after each successful registration.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to complete the process and exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test all remotes to ensure proper operation.
