Programming Guide for 1998 Mazda 626 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1998 Mazda 626 supports on-board programming for keyless entry remotes. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. This procedure must be completed within a limited time frame for successful entry into programming mode.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Close all vehicle doors.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open.
  • Step 4: Perform the following steps within 24 seconds: a. Insert the key into the ignition. b. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. c. Repeat Step b two more times (for a total of three ON/OFF cycles). d. Remove the key from the ignition. e. Press the door frame switch (the black rubber button on the driver’s door frame that senses whether the door is open or closed) three times.
  • Step 5: Wait for a chime, buzz, or door lock cycle to indicate that the vehicle has entered programming mode. If no sound is heard, wait 40 seconds, then repeat the process from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Program each remote by pressing any button on the transmitter twice. After successful registration, you should hear a chime, buzz, or door lock cycle. If you only have one remote, repeat this step two more times with the same remote. If you have two remotes, repeat this step with the second remote two more times.
  • Step 7: Press the driver’s door frame switch once. You should hear two chimes, buzzes, or two lock/unlock cycles, confirming that all remotes have been successfully programmed.
