Programming Guide for 1998 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1998 model is not equipped with onboard programming capability for smart key remote fobs. Programming requires the use of professional-grade diagnostic tools and must be performed by a trained automotive technician.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Gather all smart key fobs you wish to program, and ensure you have access to the vehicle.
- Step 2: Arrange for a qualified automotive technician or dealer service provider to complete the programming process. This system cannot be programmed manually by the vehicle owner.
- Step 3: If the vehicle is operable, consider transporting it to the technician’s facility. This may be more cost-effective than requesting a mobile service appointment.
- Step 4: The technician will connect a specialized diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s onboard system. This equipment is required to securely access the programming module.
- Step 5: Once connected, the system will be placed into programming mode using the diagnostic tool. All existing remotes may be erased during this process, depending on the system design.
- Step 6: Each smart key fob will be registered with the system individually. The technician will confirm that the new fobs are correctly synced and functional.
- Step 7: After programming is complete, all remotes will be tested to ensure proper operation of the keyless entry system and any additional features.
Additional Considerations: All smart keys may need to be present during programming, as some systems erase prior data during the process. Proof of ownership may be required, especially if all keys are lost. This may include the vehicle title, registration, and a valid ID. Remote battery health is essential. Ensure all fobs have functional batteries before programming. Only qualified professionals with the correct tools can complete the programming. Onboard methods are not available for this model year.
