Programming Guide for 1998 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle includes onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. To ensure successful setup, all remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote not programmed during this process will be removed from the system and will need to be reprogrammed separately.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and make sure all doors are fully closed before beginning.
  • Step 2: Have all remote fobs you intend to program with you inside the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Within 10 seconds, turn the key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending on the eighth cycle with the key in the RUN position. This must be done quickly and smoothly without pausing.
  • Step 5: After completing the eighth turn, the door locks will automatically lock and unlock, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: If programming a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of the previous remote. The locks will cycle again to indicate successful registration.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes, ensuring each is programmed within 20 seconds of the last.
  • Step 9: When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  • Step 10: The door locks will cycle once more, indicating that the system has exited programming mode.
  • Step 11: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to verify the lock and unlock functions are working properly.
  • Step 12: If any remote fails to function, repeat the entire procedure from Step 1, ensuring that the timing requirements are strictly followed.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed together in the same session. Remotes not included will be erased from the system. Timing is critical. The system will exit programming mode automatically if input is not received within the specified windows. Check each remote’s battery before starting to avoid communication errors during the procedure.
