Programming Guide for 1998 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This procedure involves using specific terminals and jumper wires to program the keyless entry remote fob. It is essential to follow each step carefully. If the programming fails, consider seeking assistance from a professional.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Locate the Data Port Find and access the Data Port in your vehicle, which is necessary for connecting the jumper wire.
  • Step 2: Insert the Keys into the Ignition Insert the vehicle keys into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 3: Check for Metal Contact Pins Ensure that terminals 1 and 4 in the Data Port contain metal contact pins. This is crucial for the connection during programming.
  • Step 4: Connect the Jumper Wire Using a suitable jumper wire, connect terminals 1 and 4 in the Data Port. Leave the jumper wire connected for the entire programming process. Ensure that you know the correct terminals (1 and 4) for the connection.
  • Step 5: Power On the System to Enter Programming Mode Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to the ACC (accessory) position, and then back to the OFF position. At this point, the doors will automatically lock and unlock once, signaling that the vehicle is in programming mode.
  • Step 6: Program the First Remote Press the LOCK button on the transmitter you wish to program three times within 10 seconds. If successful, the doors will lock and unlock once to confirm that the remote has been programmed.
  • Step 7: Program a Second Remote (if applicable) If programming a second remote, repeat the process by pressing the LOCK button on the second remote three times within one minute. Upon successful registration, the doors will lock and unlock once to confirm that the second remote is programmed.
  • Step 8: Test the Remotes Test both programmed remotes by pressing the lock/unlock buttons to confirm that they are working as expected.
  • Step 9: Disconnect the Jumper Wire Once programming is complete and both remotes are verified, disconnect the jumper wire from the Data Port.
  • Step 10: Remove the Keys from the Ignition Finally, remove the keys from the ignition to complete the programming process.
