Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora

Important Note: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. If a remote is not included in the session, it will be erased from the system and will no longer function.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Insert the ignition key, but leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) under the driver’s side dashboard. It is a trapezoid-shaped connector. While the terminals are not labeled, terminal 4 is in the bottom row (third pin from the left), and terminal 8 is in the top row (third pin from the right). Refer to a pinout diagram if needed.
  • Step 3: Ensure there are metal contacts in terminals 4 and 8. Use a jumper wire to connect these two terminals. Leave the jumper wire connected throughout the programming process. When connected properly, the vehicle will lock and unlock the doors, confirming that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 4: Close all doors securely before proceeding.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). The doors will lock automatically, indicating that the system is ready to receive remote signals.
  • Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. After approximately 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming. Release the buttons.
  • Step 7: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to program. All remotes must be programmed in the same session.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test each remote to ensure proper operation of all functions (lock, unlock, trunk, panic).
