Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remotes. All transmitters must be programmed during the same session. Any remotes not programmed at that time will be erased from the system.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Ensure the ignition is in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Open the trunk and locate the keyless programming connector. It is found near the center of the rear shelf area. The connector is a small plastic plug with two wires and is not attached to anything. You may need to gently pull back trunk trim to access it.
- Step 3: Confirm that the connector contains two terminals. Use a jumper wire to connect both terminals. Leave the wire in place throughout the entire process. When connected correctly, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) once, indicating that the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 4: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 15 seconds, or until the locks cycle again. This confirms that the remote has been successfully programmed and that any previous codes have been erased.
- Step 5: Repeat Step 4 for any additional remotes you wish to program. Do not remove the jumper wire between remotes.
- Step 6: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the jumper wire from the connector to exit programming mode.
- Step 7: Test all remotes to confirm that they operate the lock and unlock functions correctly.
