Programming Guide for 1998 Oldsmobile LSS Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle supports on-board programming using the diagnostic (OBDII) port. No special tools are required, but careful attention must be paid to correctly identifying the appropriate terminals.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition cylinder and leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) under the dashboard on the driver’s side. It is a trapezoidal plug with the wider edge at the top. Although the terminals are not numbered, be sure to accurately identify terminal 8 and terminal 4 using a reliable reference diagram.
- Step 3: Ensure there are metal contact pins in terminals 8 and 4. Then use a jumper wire to connect these two terminals. Keep the jumper wire connected throughout the entire programming process.
- Step 4: When the connection is made, the vehicle will automatically lock and unlock the doors, confirming entry into programming mode.
- Step 5: Close all doors securely before continuing.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition to the ON position (one click before the engine would start). The door locks will cycle once more to confirm readiness.
- Step 7: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. After approximately 15 seconds, the vehicle will lock and unlock the doors to indicate successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 8: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes to be programmed (if applicable).
- Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the OBDII connector to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key. Test each remote to confirm that all functions are working properly.
