Programming Guide for 1998 Oldsmobile Regency Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1998 Oldsmobile Regency supports on-board programming for keyless entry remotes via the vehicle’s Data Link Connector (DLC). No special tools are needed, but accurate identification of connector terminals is essential for successful programming.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. This trapezoidal connector is wider at the top. Although terminal numbers are not labeled, use a reference diagram to correctly identify terminal 8 and terminal 4.
- Step 3: Ensure that metal pins are present in both terminal 8 and terminal 4. Use a suitable jumper wire to connect the two terminals. Leave the jumper wire in place for the entire programming process.
- Step 4: Once the connection is made, the vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically, indicating that it has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Make sure all doors are fully closed before continuing.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (without starting the engine). The door locks will cycle again, confirming the system is ready for remote programming.
- Step 7: On the first remote to be programmed, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time. After approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock again, signaling successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 8: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes you wish to program.
- Step 9: When all remotes have been programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
- Step 11: Test each remote to ensure proper operation.
