Programming Guide for 1999 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Catera

Important Notice: The 1999 Catera does not support onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs. Programming must be performed using specialized equipment by a trained automotive technician.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Confirm that the replacement remote is specifically designed for your vehicle’s model and year.
  • Step 2: Make sure your vehicle’s battery is fully charged, as consistent voltage is critical during remote programming.
  • Step 3: Collect all remote fobs that you plan to program, as some systems may erase previous fobs during the process.
  • Step 4: Schedule an appointment with a qualified technician or service center that has the proper diagnostic tools for programming.
  • Step 5: If the vehicle is operational, consider driving it to the service location rather than requesting mobile support, as this may help reduce service fees.
  • Step 6: Bring proof of ownership, such as your vehicle title or registration, as this may be required before programming can begin.
  • Step 7: The technician will access your vehicle’s onboard computer by connecting a scan tool to the diagnostic port, typically located under the dashboard.
  • Step 8: Using the diagnostic interface, the technician will enter programming mode and register the new remote to the vehicle’s system.
  • Step 9: If multiple remotes are being added, each one must be programmed during the same session to ensure proper functionality.
  • Step 10: After programming is complete, the technician will test each remote for proper operation of all features, including locking, unlocking, and trunk release.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the emergency key into each remote (if applicable) and store any spare remotes in a secure location.
