Programming Guide for 1999 Lexus RX300 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1999 Lexus RX300 requires a manual programming procedure for remote fobs. Follow all steps carefully, as timing is critical. Make sure all remotes to be programmed are available during the session. ]
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Preparation Remove the key from the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are closed.
- Step 2: Start Programming Sequence Insert the key into the ignition and then remove it immediately. Within 40 seconds, perform the following action: Press the power door lock switch to the LOCK position, then within one second, press it to the UNLOCK position. Repeat this cycle five times in total (lock → unlock, five times). After the fifth cycle, close and then open the driver’s door.
- Step 3: Select Programming Mode Within 40 seconds, repeat the same lock/unlock operation from Step 2 (lock → unlock, five times) without closing/opening the door this time. Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch from LOCK to ON, then back to LOCK, cycling the ignition the number of times that corresponds to the desired mode (see table below). Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 4: Confirm Programming Mode After you remove the key, the door locks will cycle to confirm the selected mode: 1 cycle for Add Mode 2 cycles for Rewrite Mode 3 or 4 cycles for Confirmation Mode (number indicates how many remotes are currently registered) 5 cycles for Prohibition Mode
- Step 5: Program Remote(s) If Add, Rewrite, or Prohibition Mode was selected: Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for at least 1.5 seconds. Within 3 seconds, press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button for at least 1 second.
- Step 6: Confirm Acceptance If programming was successful, the door locks will cycle once. If programming failed, the locks will cycle twice. If this happens, repeat Step 5 within 40 seconds.
- Step 7: Finalize Programming Programming ends when one of the following occurs: 40 seconds elapse without any remote activity. The driver’s door is closed. The key is inserted back into the ignition. Four remotes are successfully programmed.
Additional Considerations:
- Add Mode: Adds a new remote without deleting existing remotes (up to 4 remotes total).
- Rewrite Mode: Erases all previous remotes and starts fresh.
- Confirmation Mode: Displays how many remotes are currently registered.
- Prohibition Mode: Erases all remotes and disables the wireless system (use if a remote is lost or stolen).
