Programming Guide for 1999 Mazda 626 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1999 Mazda 626 supports on-board programming of remote key fobs. This process must be completed promptly, and all remotes—new and existing—must be programmed during the same session.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Make sure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the remainder of the procedure.
  • Step 4: Within 24 seconds, perform the following actions: a. Insert the key into the ignition. b. Turn the key to the ON position (without starting the engine), then turn it OFF. c. Repeat Step b two more times (for a total of three ON/OFF cycles). d. Remove the key from the ignition. e. Press the driver door frame switch (the black rubber button on the door frame that detects door closure) three times.
  • Step 5: Listen for a chime, buzzing sound, or door lock/unlock cycle, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode. If no sound is heard, wait 40 seconds, then restart from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Program each remote by pressing any button twice on the transmitter. After each remote is accepted, a chime, buzz, or door lock cycle will confirm successful programming. If only one remote is available, repeat this step two more times using the same remote. If two remotes are available, repeat this step two more times using the second remote.
  • Step 7: Press the driver door frame switch once. You should hear two chimes, two buzzes, or two lock/unlock cycles, confirming the successful completion of programming.
