Programming Guide for 1999 Mercury Mystique Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 1999 Mercury Mystique supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. The procedure uses a programming connector located behind the glove box. During this process, all remote fobs must be programmed in the same session. Any fob not included will be erased from memory.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver's seat and ensure all doors are closed securely.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Locate the programming connector behind the glove box. You may need to open or temporarily remove the glove box to reach it.
- Step 4: Use a small jumper wire or a paperclip to momentarily connect the two terminals in the programming connector. If done correctly, the horn will chirp once, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The horn will chirp again to indicate successful programming of that remote.
- Step 6: Press any button on the second remote fob within a few seconds. The horn will chirp once more, confirming programming of the second remote.
- Step 7: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 8: The horn will emit a final chirp, signaling that the programming session is complete.
- Step 9: Disconnect the jumper wire from the programming connector and return the glove box to its original position if it was removed.
- Step 10: Test each remote fob to ensure both lock and unlock functions are working properly.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed together. Remotes not included will no longer function until reprogrammed. Act quickly. If there is too much delay between steps, the vehicle may exit programming mode. Confirm each remote's battery is in good condition to ensure successful programming.
