1999 Mercury Sable

Programming Guide for 1999 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 1999 Mercury Sable supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not programmed in this session will need to be reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver's seat with all doors closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending the eighth cycle with the key in the RUN position. The ignition cycles must be performed quickly and smoothly. After completing this, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm the system is in programming mode.
  • Step 4: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote (if applicable). The door locks will cycle again, confirming programming of the second remote.
  • Step 6: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 7: The door locks will cycle once more, signaling the end of the programming session.
  • Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working properly.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in the same session. If any are not programmed, they will not work until reprogrammed. Timing is crucial. Make sure to press each remote button within the required time frames to avoid the vehicle exiting programming mode. Ensure the batteries in each remote are functional before starting the procedure to prevent errors.
