Keyless Entry Remote Programming Instructions – 1999 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming through the diagnostic port. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Remotes not programmed during this procedure will no longer function.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Insert the ignition key and leave it in the OFF position.
- Step 2: Locate the Data Link Connector (DLC) under the driver's side dashboard. This trapezoidal connector follows a standard OBDII layout. While terminals are not labeled on the port, reference the following positions: Terminal 8: Top row, far right Terminal 4: Bottom row, second from the left
- Step 3: Ensure there are metal pins in terminals 8 and 4. Use a jumper wire to connect these two terminals. Leave the wire in place during the entire programming process. The vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, indicating it has entered programming mode.
- Step 4: Confirm that all doors are fully closed.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). The doors will lock again, signaling readiness for programming.
- Step 6: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. After about 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle again, confirming successful programming. Release the buttons.
- Step 7: Within 60 seconds, repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you want to program.
- Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the jumper wire from the DLC.
- Step 9: Test all remotes to verify that lock and unlock functions operate correctly.
