1999 Subaru Legacy Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 1999 Subaru Legacy supports onboard programming for its keyless entry remote fobs. Carefully follow the steps below to program up to four remotes.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat with all doors, including the trunk or liftgate, fully closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open the driver’s door, then close it once. Remain seated in the vehicle.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the ""OFF"" position to the ""ON"" position (dash lights on, engine off), and back to ""OFF"" a total of ten times rapidly. Complete this step within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: After the tenth cycle, if performed correctly, the horn will beep once, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door once more to confirm programming mode activation.
- Step 6: Press any button on the first remote. The horn will beep twice, confirming that the remote has been successfully registered.
- Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), open and close the driver’s door, then press a button on the next remote. You should hear two horn beeps after each successful programming.
- Step 8: When all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will beep three times, signaling that programming mode has ended.
- Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes before testing the remotes to allow the system to reset.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on a remote. The doors should lock and the alarm system will activate.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Pressing the Unlock button again will unlock the remaining doors and the trunk.
