1999 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 1999 Subaru Outback supports onboard programming for keyless entry remotes. Up to four remotes can be programmed in one session. Follow the steps below carefully to complete the process.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Make sure all doors, including the trunk or liftgate, are closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the OFF position to the ON position (dash lights on, engine off), then back to OFF—ten times rapidly within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: After the tenth turn, the horn will sound once, indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one more time to proceed.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote you want to program. The horn will beep twice, confirming successful programming.
- Step 7: To add more remotes (up to four total), repeat the previous step: open and close the driver’s door, then press a button on the next remote. The horn will beep twice for each successfully added remote.
- Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times, indicating the vehicle has exited programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes before testing remote functionality.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on a programmed remote. The doors should lock, and the alarm system will activate.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press it again to unlock all other doors and the trunk.
