1999 Toyota 4Runner Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
For Vehicles with Factory Keyless Entry System
Important Note: This procedure allows you to program one or more remotes, retain or erase previously stored remotes, and verify how many are currently registered. Carefully follow all timing requirements to ensure successful programming.
Step-by-Step Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Initial Setup Ensure the key is out of the ignition. The driver’s door must be open, unlocked, and all other doors closed.
- Step 2: Begin Programming Sequence Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it.
- Step 3: First Lock/Unlock Cycle (within 40 seconds) A) Using the driver’s power door lock switch, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles, starting with lock. (1 cycle = 1 lock + 1 unlock). Maintain a steady pace of about one cycle per second. B) Close the driver’s door, then reopen it.
- Step 4: Second Lock/Unlock Cycle (within 40 seconds)
- A) Repeat 5 more lock/unlock cycles using the driver’s power lock switch.
- B) Insert the key into the ignition.
- C) Turn the key to the following positions, depending on the action you wish to perform: Once to ON → then OFF = Add a remote while retaining existing remotes Twice to ON → OFF → ON → OFF = Erase all existing remotes and add new Three times = Check how many remotes are registered Five times = Erase all existing remotes without adding new
- D) Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Confirm Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should automatically lock and unlock to confirm entry into programming mode. If they do not cycle, return to Step 1 and retry the entire sequence.
- Step 6: Program Remote(s) (within 40 seconds)
- A) Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1 second.
- B) Immediately after releasing both buttons, press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds. If the door locks cycle once, programming was successful. If the locks do not cycle or cycle twice, repeat Step 6A and 6B.
- C) Repeat Step 6A and 6B for any additional remotes.
- Step 7: Complete Programming Close the driver’s door to exit programming mode. Test each remote to ensure all functions are working correctly.
